Someone at the reception may be a killer. Someone's Proposal may not turn out to be so perfect after all.

Another winner and fast paced winner for author Nancy.J.Parra. The Perfect Proposal's Mysteries are my very favorite reads. Heartwarming relationships and characters. Pepper's father-daughter relationship with the detective on the case, her boyfriend Gage and her friend and sometimes assistant,Toby is looking for love in all the wrong places. A fun premise and a perfect mystery, Pepper's perfect proposals are always entertaining and exciting.

Book Review/Giveaway: Hearse and Gardens by Kathleen Bridge

 Title: Hearse and Gardens
Series: Book 2 A Hamptons Home And Garden Mystery
 Publisher: Berkley Prime Crime
 Format: Paperback
Source: Received for review from Publisher
Star Rating: 4 out of 5

Meg Barrett has settled into her life in Montuak, sort of, still in her rental and in the midst of a legal battle for the cottage she recently purchased. She'll find herself distracted by a new man in her life, a potential stalker and a new murder, or an old one since it happen two decades prior. Whilst helping her friend Elle with an inventory job of a decapitated bungalow on an estate of her uncle's, they will stumble upon a skeleton locked in a room.

Once the identity of the skeleton is revealed old wounds and dark secrets are brought to the surface. A colourful history of artists, family deceit and a stolen famous Warhol painting will set this family on edge. Meg finds herself in another position where she feels compelled to get to the bottom of this for the deceased's father and daughter. Along with this murder comes an intriguing scavenger hunt to decipher the clue's drawn in the journal's left by Liv's father.

When the clues lead to a second set of bones everyone becomes confused. And the question remain's who is the killer and where is the iconic painting. In the end Meg will come face to face with the killer and her stalker.

I thoroughly enjoyed the second book in this series, I like the story line of bringing an old murder forward and the cause and effect of such an event in people's lives. There is also a lot of juicy family drama that keeps you going along with the main characters own issues. Meg is a great character, not looking at her loss of hearing as a disability just as an is. She is strong willed and independent , a must I have for my favorite female leads. The supporting cast of characters such as Elle, Ingrid, Harrison and Jo make the story even more enjoyable.

Looking forward to the third installment......

Book Review/Giveaway: Berry the Hatchet by Peg Cochran

Title: Berry The Hatchet
 Author: Peg Cochran
Series: Book 2 Cranberry Cove Mystery
 Publisher: Berkley Prime Crime
 Format: Paperback
Source: Received for review from Publisher
Star Rating: 4 out of 5
 Reviewed by: Tina

It's cold and snowy in idyllic Cranberry Cove home of Sassamamash Farm and Monica Albertson who lives there with her half- brother, Jeff who is a cranberry farmer along with Gina, Jeff's mother who lives in town and also surprising Monica her mother Nancy also is coming to town and Gina and Nancy have a hard time getting along . The Winter walk event is coming, tourists and visitors walk along the light twinkled store fronts and merchants open their doors and offer up hot chocolate, and people can shop.

Monica is baking several cranberry delights for the event like muffins, bread, salsa made from the farm's cranberry harvest. Tempest Storm is a business owner and is doing a imbolic ritual at the winter walk to hurry spring so winter will end.

The mayor, Preston Crowley wants to ban the ceremony and it angers Tempest to no end. The mayor and his niece “Miss Winter walk” Candy are due to ride down the street in a horse drawn sleigh but when the mayor arrives alone in the sleigh with a bloody ceremonial dager stuck in his neck, Monica is shocked and together with her love interest and book store owner Greg but on their mystery solving thinking caps to try to find a murderer with no shortage of suspects including Monica's mother and step-mother who were both dating the mayor at the same time and with another murder of the mayors niece, Candy. Monica can't help but have a sour taste in her mouth.

I did not enjoy Berry the Hatchet as much as I did the first book, Berried Secrets. The story line just fell flat and was not as much of a page turner the Winter walk and the imbolic ritual did not interest me. It was an engaging read with a murder victim you loved to hate and a killer with a past that was not so unexpected. The Cast of Characters is what made this story exciting. Monica and her love of baking cranberry treats make her one of my favorite ameteur sleuths. I will love to read the next book in this series.

Book Review/Giveaway: Mrs. Malory and Death is a Word by Hazel Holt

Title: Mrs.Malory and Death is a Word
Author: Hazel Holt
Series: Book 21 Sheila Malory Mystery
 Publisher: Obsidian Mystery
 Format: Paperback
Source: Received for review from Publisher
 Star Rating: 3 out 5
 Reviewed by: Marlene

When one of Sheila's oldest friends comes back to Taviscombe to live after her husband passes away an odd set of events is set into effect. Eva Jackson, wife of famous foreign correspondent, Alan Jackson has decided to leave the busy London life behind her and settle back to her roots. Although with help from Sheila and her cousin, Rosemary it is still a struggle for her to face.

Shortly after settling into her cottage Eva is bombarded with many stresses, her late husband's publisher wanting her to send Alan's unpublished works to be set into a book, a neighboring farmer who is bullying her about her land and a fire in her garage. However when Eva becomes ill and dies. Her son, Daniel and his partner, Patrick move into the cottage and struggle to find their place and where to go from here. When Daniel is killed by a supposed drunk driver it becomes more apparent nothing is what it seems.

With Sheila and Patrick prodding the police with possibilities of foul play. They embark on their own discovery, one that will lead to a possibly dangerous confrontation.

I enjoyed the story line of this book but couldn't help that since I had not read a Sheila Malory Mystery before quite a bit of the details of who and where and the connections confused me. It took me almost to the end of the book to figure what kind of animals Tris and Foss were. The structure of the writing was great and very descriptive, I could see some of the scenes and being able to visualize what I am reading helps.

The characters are great and believable. I very much liked Sheila and Mrs. Dudley. They were two very strong willed women in their own rights.

Book Review/Giveaway: Gone with the Witch by Heather Blake

Title: Gone with the Witch
 Author: Heather Blake
Series: Book 6 A Wishcraft Mystery
 Publisher: NAL
 Format: Paperback
Source: Received for review from Publisher
 Rating: Four Stars
 Reviewed by: Tina

If you are a fan of A Wishcraft Mysteries by Heather Blake and you are so patiently waiting to find out who the elder is all will be revealed in Gone with the witch and as I was I don't think you will be disappointed. Or if you are like me a new fan to the the series only reading one previous book you are in for an enchanting, heartfelt read with unforgettable characters, with twists and turns, sabotage, secrets and a murder.

As you can guess Darci Merriweather is a witch who lives in Salem, Massachusetts, with her Aunt Ve and many other crafter aka witch friends. Darcy is the proprietor of “As you Wish” a personal concierge service that is becoming known for private investigating. The cool thing is is that Darcy has the ability to grant wishes but she and along with her sister Harper who has yet to accept her fate as a witch have to live among the mortals in secret not revealing they are witches or their abilities. Ivy Teasdale is organizing the “Pawsitively Enchanting Pet Extravaganza, it is a annual event and competition featuring animals in the village from all walks of life, cats, dogs, guinea pigs, even a Nigerian dwarf goat named, Cookie.

Ivy asks Darcy to watch over the event and keep her eye on Natasha and her cat Titania who has continuously won the competition by not so fair means. Ivy thinks that Natasha is up to no good by sabotaging previous competitors in past years and she she does not want the same to happen this year. Natasha suddenly collapses at Darcy's feet and is pronounced dead by poisoning.

While Darcy is the search for the elders identity she knows her aunt is keeping secrets from her. With another poisoning and animal competitors being “petnapped” Ivy once again asks Darcy to help find Natasha's killer but it proves difficult as they are mortals and it's against witch laws. Jealousy, cheating and revenge, talking animals made this such a delightful and suspense filled page turner.

I love Pepe and Mrs. P somehow reminded me of the talking mice in Cinderella and that is one of my favorite movies as a child. Archie, the bird and Cookie the goat had me in stitches with their antics. If you are looking for an escape to an enchanted village with good witches and some evil characters read Gone with the Witch and feel the magic.

Book Review/Giveaway: Don't go home by Carolyn Hart

 Title: Don't Go Home
 Author: Carolyn Hart
Series: Book 25 A Death On Demand Mystery
 Publisher: Berkley Prime Crime
  Format: Paperback
Source: Received for review from Publisher
 Star Rating: 3 out 5
 Reviewed by: Marlene

Annie Darling of Death On Demand Bookstore is proposed with a wonderful opportunity to be apart of the publicity for Alex Griffith's new book Don't Go Home. Once Annie figures out what Alex is up to, coming back to the island to name names and ruins lives she promptly chooses not to be a party to this. Although she is no longer involved in the event she still goes and that becomes the first of many steps to breaking a promise to her husband, Max to stay out of amateur sleuthing.

Once Annie realizes her dear friend Marion is involved she can't stay away. She and Marion soon come to realize everyone Alex left behind has a reason to want him dead. It will take time, energy and manipulation to find the killer. While Annie is headstrong on the case, Marion is also trying to hide her sorted past and is playing cat and mouse with the Chief of police in order to do it. Soon a second murder brings the most likely suspects to light but then again no one on this island is who they seem.

First, I would like to say I enjoyed the plot and story line of this book but I found the beginning quite confusing with the all the characters intertwining between the story and the book. It took me awhile to get a handle on who was who and who they were written up to be. As for character's I think I may have only identified with Rae, stuck wanting more somewhere other then where she was. Possibly a bit of Marion, trying to keep it all together while denying the past. It was a good book but it was lost on me.

Book Review/Giveaway: Irish Stewed by Kylie Logan

Title: Irish Stewed
 Author: Kylie Logan
Series: Book 1 Ethnic Eats Mysteries
 Publisher: Berkley Prime Crime
 Format: Paperback
 Star Rating: Five Stars
 Reviewed by: Tina

It's not the same old culinary cozy mystery this one has a twist, a ethnic twist with a different kind of amateur sleuth, Laurel. Laurel has come back home to Hubbard, Ohio after being fired from her personal chef job for a Hollywood superstar, Laurel's foster aunt Sophie Charnowski is going to be laid up in the hospital and Sophie asks Laurel to take care of her diner Sophie's at the Terminal at the Tracks at a train station that has been a gathering place for over forty years.

What Laurel finds at the diner is not her idea of a ideal working environment with kitchy Victorian dusty knick knacks and teddy bears considering when her aunt visited her and her deceased foster mother Sophie showed her pictures of an entirely different restaurant but after much debate Laurel decides to stay. Could it possibly have to do with the owner of the Irish Store and lawyer, sexy, hunky, Delcan?

When Sophie and Laurel meet at the Diner, Laurel finds investigate reporter,of Channel WKFJ Jack Lancer aka “The Lance of Justice.” a publicity hound, a fearless cavalier, at times charitable but loved to shame people on TV and a scumbag womanizer slumped over the table dead stabbed to death with a receipt spike that Sophie's grandfather brought over from Poland in 1913.

Suspects start to emerge and Laurel being new to town and to Sophie's want to find a killer, even when a media frenzy with pushy, noisy reporter, Kim Kline at the helm and a change of menu brings a hectic but good change to the diner after there's little to no customers. Laurel wonders if someone has a grudge over one of the “Lance of Justice's” news stories but looking a little closer to home is what Laurel may have to do.

This is one of the best first in a series cozy mysteries I have read in a long time. What a intriguing cast of characters with a unique premise for a foodie cozy mystery that made it exciting and a captivating read. The Lance of Justice is not the only one who needs justice when someone else is murdered but getting justice for two may not be as easy as Delcan's mom recipe for Irish stew. I can't wait to read French Fried, the second book in the series.
