A apple festival is taking place in Apple Valley, California and Aunt Abby, Darcy and Dillon are heading there in the "Big Yellow School Bus". As part of the festival Aunt Abby is preparing her new recipe Salted Apple Caramel Tarts and Darcy wants to add more recipes to the cookbook she's writing.

Someone wants to destroy all the apple farms and deliberately setting them on fire. There's a company that makes the "perfect apple" chocked with chemicals, that make the apple not go brown after its cut open and supposedly delicious to eat they are also looking to buy out all the farms. Coincidence? The apple farmers are up in arms about it because they grow organic apples and some of them feel they can't compete.

Aunt Abby and her gang are staying at her friend, Honey's Enchanted Apple Inn for the weekend and a newspaper reporter who is writing about the festival is found murdered at the inn with Honey's own apple corer she becomes the prime suspect and then the supposed desendant of "Johnny Appleseed" is murdered in the hay maze. Darcy needs to find the bad apple in the bunch before it's too late. Her only hope is that she don't take a bite of the poison apple along the way.

A food truck series with a lovable Aunt serving up the tastiest dishes with a mystery that's hard to beat. Clever and delectable, as delicious as a shiny red apple. Author Penny Pike pens a fast pased and entertaining mystery, perfect for the food lover at heart that's why I love this series. There's no shortage of food and edge of your seat thrills in Death of a Bad Apple.

Book Review/Giveaway: One Foot in the Grove by Kelly Lane

Title: One Foot in the Grove
 Author: Kelly Lane
Series: Book 1 An Olive Grove Mystery
 Publisher: Berkley Prime Crime Mystery
 Format: Paperback

There's is no shortage of southern charm and gossip in this first in An Olive Grove Mysteries. Eva Knox certainly has no shortage of man troubles. After leaving Buck Tanner at the alter in her home town of Adundance, Georgia and running off to Boston then leaving another man at the altar. Years later,Eva is coming home to her family's olive tree plantation and to the families  business of olive oil. When Eva shows her face back in town she is not met with a happy reception. It seems the town of Abundance can't get over the fact that Eva left Buck Tanner at the alter and skipped town.

Especially Buck's gossip spreading mother who works at the local beauty shop. A death on the family farm soon has the family in turmoil when Eva becomes the number one suspect when it turns out that it's murder. Staying at the inn on the plantation aka "The Big House" are some questionable guests and when the chef and the inn's guide disappears more suspicion follows.

With her former fiance, Buck Tanner being the town sheriff, Eva wants to find the killer of the man in her families olive grove, together with her spunky sisters Pep and Daphne. Between that and keeping the plantation afloat and Finding the killer before Eva becomes the next victim.

This is a first in a series with a unique premise about a olive grove and olive oil just for the culinary theme and together with the cover caught my attention and I had to try. The the way the ladies talked with their southern language soon became on the edge of annoying to me but I did find what they had to say funny at times. Eva Knox is a feisty, southern gal who makes a great ameture sleuth and I liked her a lot.

The way author Kelly Lane writes descriptions of the men in the story had me swooning especially how Buck constantly  calls Eva "babydoll". That's the romantic in me, I guess. The pase of the story was lacking for me, I found it slow at times but I did end up enjoying the story in the end and I will be trying the next book in the series.

Book Review/Giveaway: The Cakes of Monte Cristo by Jacklyn Brady

You won't find another more decadent or more scrumptious mystery as The Cakes of Monte Cristo. I love getting lost in the A Piece of Cake Mysteries and in Zydeco Cakes Shop, a shop that is co-owned by Rita Lucero and owned by her mother-in-law whom she calls Miss Frankie. Zydeco Cakes is making delicious cakes designed in the shape of elegant dresses for the Belle Lune Ball and the Vintage Clothing Society.

Also for the first time catering this event and everyone at Zydeco has all hands on deck baking, decorating and cooking and preparing for the event to take place at a local hotel in New Orleans. After hiring a new temp at Zydeco, Zoey, her and Rita stumble upon a long lost hidden treasure under the stairs at Zydeco Cakes. It's a opulent ruby necklace that has a long and heartbreaking history of love and betrayal and has a supposed curse that if any one is in possession of it bad luck and death will soon follow.

Rita takes the necklace to a appraiser, soon after there's a robbery at the appraisers vintage shop and she drops dead of a sudden heart attack and it is discovered she was scared to death by the robber and it's considered murder. After getting the necklace back from the police after the robbery investigation goes sour Rita becomes a target of someone who wants the necklace really badly. Bad things keep happening to Rita and she soon fears for her life. The cure may be responsible and Rita may be the next to die.

Saying I love this series would be an understatement. And it's only the second book I have read in this series but I do hope to catch up soon. A very engaging and entertaining trip to New Orleans in the A Piece of Cake Mysteries that is just sweet perfection. The Cakes of Monte Cristo kept me guessing and in suspense until the end. The best part was the mystery of the ruby necklace and how it was all connected to certain characters, it was the best part of the story.

Book Review/Giveaway: To Helvetica and Back by Paige Shelton

 Title: To Helvetica and Back
 Author: Paige Shelton
Series: Book 1 A Dangerous Type Mystery
 Publisher: Berkley Prime Crime Mystery
 Format: Paperback
Source: Received for review from Publisher
 Rating: Four Stars
 Reviewed by: Tina

This mystery had me from the word "typewriter". As a child loved writing stories on them and I had many. As I read the synopsis with the protagonist Clare Henry working at "The Rescued Word" shop with her grandfather whom she calls by his real name, Chester and they repaired old and vintage typewriter's and restored old books and sold stationary I knew this book had me and I quickly put it on my to-be-read list.

Welcome to Star City, Utah, a city known for its sprawling hills and mounds of snow where it's a skiers paradise. A unknown man walks into "The Rescued Word" and demands Clare hand over a vintage typewriter to him that Clare is repairing that belongs to a friend of her grandfather, Chester. He soon ran off leaving behind a camera after Clare called the police who also happens to be Clares best friend, Jodie.

After the shop cameras are reinstalled after many years Clare makes a discovery on one of the cameras facing the back of the store. A shoe. She ventures outside to find "the leather man" because of his motorcycle biker looking attire the same man that was in the store the previous day demanding the typewriter laying on the ground, dead.

Clare wonders who this man is and what he could possibly want with a old typewriter. Shes eager to tag along with best friend and police woman, Jodie to investigate the crime and find a killer but Clare's ex and also policeman, Creighton may be standing in their way with a possible new romance for Clare she won't let that stop her.

From the unique title and premise with the title I actually had to google to find the meaning of. To the picturesque setting and the best part being "The Rescued Word" shop, where the typewriter's brought me back to my childhood. I would be remiss to not to mention the shop's not so lovable cat, Baskerville being a cat lover myself.

The characters were very likable especially grandfather Chester but to me were not lovable quite yet. I hope to get to know them more in future books and hope to change my mind. Certain aspects of the plot I found uninteresting for example the "goat relocation", It was a very nostalgic reading adventure and I thoroughly enjoyed this first book in the A dangerous Type mysteries.

Star rating: 5 out of 5

M.J. fresh from vacation is happier then ever. With Hollywood making one of her Ghoul Getters episodes into a feature film and her life taking a whole new direction nothing could be better. Till she gets back to Boston and finds Gilly loaned out a dangerous relic which holds not only a serial killer ghost but a demon too.

As M.J. and Heath arrive at the museum to meet Gilly to get to the bottom of this and re-acquire the relic they are met with resistance with the Director, Phil Sullivan. After a confusing commotion three of them go back to M.J.s condo and try to work out why this happened. Soon there after Detective Olivera shows up at her door and it all gets worse the relic, a dagger was stolen and the Director is found dead.

With Olivera viewing the three of them as suspects she is blinded by what is really going on around her. M.J. and Heath have no choice but to give her a front row seat to a very real haunting. They take her to an apartment building haunted by an elderly woman that doesn't like guests. After contact with a true ghost Olivera is now on their side and they can work together to solve who is behind the theft and murder.

I loved the story, there is a lot more in the book then I could put in the summary above I just felt I couldn't without giving to much away. Within a few chapters I couldn't put it down M.J. and her gang find themselves at a great deal of disadvantages in the challenges they face but by sticking together as a team they give one hell of a fight. It was very enjoyable.

Ms. Laurie writes great characters, I especially love M.J. and Gilly's relationship how they play off of each other. She even gives minor characters a much deserved life, like Olivera and Ayden. I also live how she brings past spooks into the story like Heath's ancestors and M.J.'s spirit guide Sam. Or the guest spot of my favorite Psychic Eye. And Doc is adorable too.

Book Review/Giveaway: Foreign Eclairs by Julie Hyzy

 Title: Foreign Eclairs
 Author: Julie Hyzy
Series: Book 9 A White House Chef Mysteries
 Publisher: Berkley Prime Crime
 Format: Paperback
Source: Received  for review from Publisher

 Reviewed by: Tina

This is the most difficult review i've ever had to write being this is the last book in the A White House Chef mysteries. This series is one of the first ones I read that introduced my love for reading cozy mysteries. It is with a heavy heart that I write this, it was a fun ride Ollie and Foreign Eclairs did not disappoint.

Ollie finds herself in the middle of all the action once again when a bomb is set to go off with an attempted escape at a federal prision. The brother of the terriorist that tried to bring The President down with a kidnapping of the President's son and Ollie. The brother is back and he wants revenge on Chef Ollie Paras of the White House and her husband Secret Service agent, Gav.

White house staffer, Margaret is then murdered in cold blood in her home because she works at the White House and all she knew about everyone there. This terrorist brother by the name of Kern is out for Ollies blood and won't stop until Ollie is dead by his hands and his brother and his home country can be avenged.

Ollie must venture out of her White House kitchen once again but coming out alive may prove to be harder than preparing her latest  culinary creation. I found myself crying with alot of touching moments throughout Foreign Eclairs and I wanted to put off reading this book because it was the last but I'm so glad I read it.There was not a moment that was not full of heart pounding action, suspense wondering what was going to happen next. The ending had me a little confused to be honest and I guess it's one you leave up to your own interpretation. I guess I will. To say it gave me closure I would be lying.

When your a book lover like me fictional characters somehow become real in your mind. To me Ollie was a role model for cooking and life. Thank you Ollie for giving me so much to look forward too and enjoy through out the years and thank you Julie Hyzy you have brought so much joy to my life.
