It's the Chicken Soup Showdown and it's wintertime in Kellerton, Michiagan and housewife and recipe developer, Amy along with her friend Sophie who owns, an up and coming cafe where Amy will providing her recipe expertise are competing along with other chefs for charity. As Amy is going backstage to chill her butter for their soup recipe, a competing chef, Chet Britton falls on top of Amy with a knife plunged into his chest as she's opening the fridge. It is one strange place to find a dead body and Amy is in shock from the experience but she has found a dead body before.

Soon every one including Amy and her other friend Carla become targets because Carla was seen telling off the arrogant Chef before he died, that and the fact that they are ex lovers but it soon seems that he had a lot more ex lovers than Carla and fellow chefs that seem to have it in for him. The detective on the case thinks that everyone is a suspect and results to low, down and dirty tactics to unsuccessfully catch Chef Britton's killer.
Amy has had enough of the crocked detective harassing her and her friends and decides to try to Clear her friends name along with her own. Amy needs to find the secret recipe to finding a killer before her or one of her friend becomes 86 ed .

Such a perfect book for a culinary mystery fan. This book is filled with yummy and delicious food references, descriptions and foodie chefs. I loved how most of the characters were chefs or had connections with food. I found I could totally relate to Amy being a foodie house wife who loves to cook and try new recipes. For me, it made this book great when you can connect with the characters. The story and the characters were so well written especially the horrible detective, it just made me want to punch him in the face because I hated him so much and I truly feared for Amy and her friends fate and when you can feel that passionate about them. I can't wait to read and review the next in this series and It has become one of my favorites.

Didgeridoo [ ˌdijərēˈdo͞o ]
NOUN
noun: didgeridoo · plural noun: didgeridoos · noun: didjeridu · plural noun: didjeridus · noun: didjeridoo · plural noun: didjeridoos an Australian Aboriginal wind instrument in the form of a long wooden tube, traditionally made from a hollow branch, which is blown to produce a deep, resonant sound, varied by rhythmic accents of timbre and volume.

When I read the title of this book I believed Didgeridoo was possibly referred to some sort of gypsy or voodoo curse of some kind. I would never have thought it was a musical instrument. When I found out in the story what is was I had to look it up on youtube. I am not sure how to describe the sound but it is very calming.

Jamie Quinn is a young family lawyer with no direction in her life since her mother passed away. That all changes when her Aunt Peg calls her to help her autistic son out of a murder charge. Jamie torn between the guilt of not keeping in touch with her family and thrusting herself into the world of criminal law, something she knows nothing about recruits her best friend and Lawyer herself, Grace and a shady Casanova PI, Duke to help her navigate through this. Soon she finds the victim has more then his fair share of enemies from past band mates, jealous husbands and ex-lovers but it will take a lot to convince the hot shot District Attorney Nick Dimitropoulos that there is more capable suspects out there then her cousin, Adam.

I really liked how the story flowed, it was a very easy read and even though it is a novella there was lot of emphasis on the characters. I really enjoyed the twist it took in the investigation and what drove Jamie to continue. The characters of this story were great, engaging and helped propel the story line. I love Jamie who is lost and needs to find her way again. Her level headed friend Grace always there to keep her on track and help her indulge when needed. I even liked Duke, fun and flirty but underneath you know he's a good guy.

Looking forward to reading another Jamie Quinn mystery.

Murder abounds in this second book of The A Biscuit Bowl Food Truck Mystery by J.J. Cook. Zoe Chase as her sponser "Chef Art" affectionately calls her and her crew, including her excentric Uncle Saul and friends Delia and Ollie are embarking and taking a chance in entering "The Sweet Magnolia Food Truck" race to be televised by the food network where they must travel to various states and then head back to their hometown of Mobile, Alabama for the finale where Zoe's "Biscuit Bowl" Food Truck has a chance to win fifty thousand dollars. They must face different cooking and let's just say awkward challenges competing against other food trucks.

It starts with the murder of Reggie Johnson, owner of "The Dog House" food truck also competing in the competition. Zoe then overhears a phone conversation between the host of the Food Truck Competition and an unknown person talking about Reggie's murder with promises of more to come. Zoe then tells a police detective who then finds himself dead after a not so accidental hit and run. The dead bodies start to pile up but yet"The Sweet Maglolia Food Truck Race" moves on to the next destination.

Zoe and her crew have all the minds set on winning the race at the same time Zoe wants to try to track of a killer that is threatening her chances of winning the grand prize. When the police set their sight on her friend, and lawyer and possible new romance,Miguel Zoe must put down her biscuit tray to find a murderer lurking in the fray.

Biscuit bowls and murdered souls. Zoe's passion for food and justice is at the forefront in the A Biscuit Bowl Food Truck Mysteries along with her crew of dynamic and excentric characters especially in Fry Another Day. A Food truck competition, secrets, delicious food and murder. Zoe has it all under control in Fry Another day and it's all in a days work for her. If I could have given this books ten stars I would. Very Fast passed and never dull, every time I hated to put the book down I wanted to pick it up again. The dedication "for foodies everywhere" for a foodie like me I know I would love this book and love is not a strong enough  word for what I thought about this book for this foodie.

Love is in the air in Fromagerie Bessette aka "The Cheese Shop". The proprietor is Charlotte Bessette. She is organizing a wine and chesse tasting  to be held in her shop for "The Lovers' Trail Festival"along with other businesses in Providence, Ohio. Charlotte and her fiance, Jordan, A Chesse farmer, who has dreams of running his own restaurant again plan on getting married, Charlotte's Grandmother is Putting on a play with the Providence Players for the event called "Love Letters" that Charlotte's ex-amish assistant at the shop, Rebecca is decorating the shop for Valentine's day and gets the lead part in along with Deputy Devon O'Shea.

Popular bar owner, Tim is then found dead on Jordan's Cheese farm in a cheese making vat, then instead of a wedding dress Charlotte decides to put on her thinking cap and puts her investigative mind to work to try to find her friend, Tim's killer. Then the local baker, Dottie is found dead on the floor of her bakery found suffocated by one of her own pasteries. Charlotte with her quick thinking discovers that there is a connection to both murders being Jordan's farm fresh Cheese.

Charlotte has a list of many suspects including Councilwoman Belinda Bell as she is reeking havoc all over town. Complaining about the local businesses and is trying to get Charlotte's grandmother to step down from running for mayor.

If this book was made of cheese I would savor each scrumptous morsel. It was that engaging and entertaining. Charlotte is a top notch wanna be detective that loves and cares for her friends, family and community. She is a character that is willing to put her life on hold for justice to prevail and life will be good once again. Again I must comment on Charlotte's diet of mainly cheese wishing I could eat that way.

This was one where the murderer was someone you will least expect and it did make me sad because I started to like but feel sorry for this character because he seemed
that genuine. This was a deliciously riveting and tasty edition to the Cheese lovers mysteries. I loved the references to the different cheese's as a culinary cozy fan I look forward to reading and reviewing the next in this delectable series.

Chef Maurice is a man with a big heart and a appetite to match. He only wants the best quality ingredients for his restaurant, Le Cochon Rouge so when he finds a wooden fish with a cryptic message carved in it from his new fish supplier, he wants nothing to do with it and he is angry that he had to change suppliers because his previous one retired thinking it must be somehow related.

His friend and food critic, Arthur wants to try to solve the mystery of the wooden fish and Chef Maurice grudgliny tags along to the Cornish Seaside to try to reel in the fishes owner and have some tasty fish and chips along the way.

This was a fun and short but enjoyable read, being a prequel to the first in this series coming soon. Chef Maurice's sous chef, Patrick and  the Le Cochon Kitchen were very enjoyable additions to the story. His food critic friend, Authur also made the story very entertaining. Great food descriptions are what I loved most in this British Culinary Mystery. I loved Chef Maurice's stereotypical chefs attitude and hearty appetite all awhile looking for his next meal I look forward to reading and reviewing the first book the Chef Maurice Mysteries.

Store owner of Crewel World and amateur sleuth, Betsy Devonshire is back along with her Monday Bunch to help clear a woman accused of murdering her own cousin due to the unforeseen fortune that may lay in his overly cluttered home. Betsy is first requested to help group people together to help with the organization and disposal of the victim's items after his cousin, Valentina Shipp obtains an emergency conservatorship from the county to do so. With all the help Valintina starts to see all the treasures her cousin has found over the years.

Soon Valentina's cousin is found dead in his hospital room and due to her being the sole heir looking to inherit his small hidden away fortine she is the main suspect. Betsy is then requested to help her out, at first apprehensive about doing so she soon sees that she may be Valintina's last hope at staying out of prison. Including her boyfriend Conner, her assistant Gowin and her Monday Bunch they start there search for who really killed Valentina's cousin for his small fortune.

I really identified with Valentina more so then with Betsy, a little rough around the edges, misunderstood and generally dismissed. I could see how coming into a community as laid out in the story could be a little intimidating and would put your gaurd up. She came into this small upscale community that she didn't really belong in but soon found friends, to help her, take her in and believe in her. There should be more places like this in the world.

The story was also close to me dealing with a family member that has hoarding tendencies (It's why I chose to read it) and I thought it would sort of give me a preview into what is to come. It was a very good story and also touched base on a growing issue and how our government systems don't really involves itself in helping the people behind the stuff.

Still not understanding if she has won over her patrons as well as some of her staff who believe they should have had a righted share to the pub he takes on a new challenge of trying to bring back life to the worn and withered pub. When a young man from Dublin University comes looking to learn firsthand about the music scene back in the nineties Maura is baffled as well as clueless which starts her done the path of trying to bring the pub back into the black.

Within twenty-four hours the word has spread that Naill Cronin has come back to Sullivan's and with that comes one amazing night of music that changes Maura's view on her life in Ireland as well as what can be. Unfortunately by morning the discovery of one the musicians dead in the back room may cast a shadow over Maura's new endeavor.

I really enjoyed Maura, I could relate to her feelings of being lost and unprepared for a drastic change in life. I liked the book, it was a good story not only about the solving a death but about community and how it should be.

There's nothing more endearing than venturing into Librarian, Charlie Harris's and his Maine Cook cat, Diesel's world. A true southern gentleman in every sense of the word, Charlie is thrilled when mayor of Athena, Mississippi Lucinda Beckwith Long donates four volumes that turn into five of her husband's ansestor diaries to the archive at Athena College.

The word of the diaries on campus is soon out and a history professor who really wants tenure and a newspaper reporter who is looking to add fuel to the fire  for a political race between two men running for the state senate. The two men are Beck Long and Jasper Singletary and since the diaries belong to an ancestor of Beck Long, there could be hidden family secrets hidden within the diaries as opponent, Jasper Singletary is hoping for.

As Charlie starts to explore the diaries for cataloging  for the archive and they are suddenly stolen from Charlie's office. He is horrified of the discovery and history professor is found dead from a hit and run driver. Charlie starts to wonder if this is a coincidence and fighting to acquire these diaries turns deadly and Charlie begins to wonder what will become of him but he soon is helping out Kanesha Berry Chief of the Athena Police department of finding the diaries and and a murderer.

I loved having a first hand looking into life in civil war times with entries from the diaries, It made for an interesting story. In the heat of politics also made this book a fast moving story. People fighting for what they want and think they deserve could sometimes not be a good thing if theft and  murder is the result but it did make for a dynamic installment the Cat in the Stacks mysteries.

We mustn't forget Charlie's Maine Coon Cat, Diesel, who is loyally by Charlie's side in all of the Cat in the Stacks mysteries. More human like as Charlie admits too. Reading about Charlie and Diesel's life in all of this series always stirs up warm and cozy feelings within me but I always know this dynamic crime fighting duo will catch their killer. Also a great addition was the short story included of "When Charlie met Diesel" about how they came together

Lila works as a agent at the Novel Idea Literary agency, she makes writers dreams come try by setting them up with publishers.
The Novel Idea Literary Agency is gearing up for a visit with a book signing and dinner set up by Lila and her co workers for television star, Damian York, a gardening and landscaping guru.

While setting up her backyard garden for the annual garden walk to be part of the book signing and dinner ordered by her boss Lila finds a skull buried there and soon discovers the young woman buried there was murdered. As The local garden club known as "The Dirty Dozen" are busy beautifying their respective gardens for the garden walk on of their members, Frannie is found murdered while tending to her prized roses.

Lila desperately want to solve the mystery of who is buried in her back yard to give that person a proper burial and for their family to find closure and she soon finds herself trying to find who would want to murder one of "The Dirty Dozen". Lila soon may discover that these two crimes could be connected. But how? Lila has to do some serious digging to find a killer who no one suspects and the suspects are aplenty.

A favorite series, each book in the series gets better and better. Played by the book mixes books, food, murder and charming and down right evil characters with perfection. I couldn't end this review without mentioning Makayla, the owner and barista at "Expresso Yourself" and her boyfriend Jay's blossoming romance. Jay is the most romantic character ever written. I eagerly await how he will sweep Makayla off her feet next, it always brings tears of joy to my eyes. I only hope that Lila's man, Sean can take some pointers from him. I can't wait to read and review the next in the series.
